Monique Owens first made history in 2017 when she was elected as Eastpointe’s first black councilwoman. Two years later she was elected Eastpointe’s first black and youngest mayor ever to hold office in Macomb County’s history!
If that wasn’t enough, this trailblazer is an author of a new children’s book, “Mom, What’s a Mayor?” written and beautifully illustrated to explain what being a mayor is to her twin daughters and future leaders.
Mayor Owens lives with her twin daughters in Eastpointe, Michigan. She attributes her success to her faith in God, her career in law enforcement, education in political science, as well as her dedication to serving her community. Her favorite Bible quote is “I can do all things through Christ,” and she continues to let others know they can too. (Source: cityofeastpointe.net)
